In a Word: "Connection"

On Saturday, April 21, A Family of My Own (AFOMO) Fertility and Adoption Conference, made it's national debut in the town of Rye Brook, NY (my home town) to kick off National Infertility Awareness Week. And what a kick-off it was! With more than 30 speakers, 2 dozen exhibitors, an incredible team of volunteers, and attendees from NY, NJ, CT, MA and beyond. It was an event not to be missed. Were you there?
If I was asked to describe the conference in a word ... I would say "Connection". It was more than a family-building was also a community-building event. It connected those who wish to create families with amazing practitioners to help achieve that dream. It provided an avenue to connect with others on a similar journey. And offered a forum for practitioners in the Fertility, Adoption and Holisitic field to meet and learn about each other's work, which in the end, can strengthen the support we offer to those on this path.
When I saw Preya's post on Linked-In last Fall, asking if anyone believed there would be interest in a TriState event that would draw people TOGETHER for a day of family building, I quickly replied "Yes!!". We believed the days of conferences were not yet over. It was serendipity. I had just launched an integrative fertility seminar series but for several years had a vision of creating a larger conference.  It was my own fertility struggle and then the blessed birth of my son, Noah which sparked that vision and my passion to support others on this path. Similarly,  Liz and Preya's fertility journeys were the catalyst for creating A Family of My Own Conferences.
In our first meeting it was clear that we had a shared vision: to Educate, Empower and create CONNECTION.  This journey is often an isolating one. We often feel like we are going through this alone. And yet 1/8 couples have troubleconceiving. I remember not even telling my best friend about my fertility struggles or that I had if there was some shame in it.   Today, the easy access to information and online resources is a blessing. Online groups and forums can provide a sense of connection and anonymity that some feel more comfortable with. But I believe it doesn't takes the place of personal connection.   Coming together in this way helps us to lift the veil of shame and the stigma that many of us sadly still feel on this journey. It can create the deep connections and support we often long for and help us realize we are not alone. It offers the opportunity to be seen... and still be accepted, which becomes a very healing gift.
Our hope is to shift the experience of isolation and to help you experience a sense of wholeness! We applaud the courage and curiosity of each an every of you who stepped out to join us.. and each other. (And if you missed the TriState,  Washington, DC is next weekend, May 12.
But whether you attended the event or not, there are three steps you can take to continue to foster a deeper sense of connection on this journey
  1. Connect/follow-up with the incredible resources of practitioners that can support you on your path.
  2. Connect to each other through yoga and medtiation classes, meet-up groups, mind/body programs, local support groups
  3. and most important...Connect to yourself- your inner guidance and your body's wisdom
My passion is to empower you to find a greater sense of balance, connection and fulfillment while you are on this journey!  I encourage you to continue to approach this journey- as we say in Yoga- with a beginner's mind, with fresh eyes. Like a child,.connected to your hearts and open to all possibility!
Don't miss the Conscious Conception Self-Nurturing Retreat on May 19th with some of TriState Conference's leading Holistic Practitioners: Pamela Madsen, Sergiana Bruno, Vicki Kobliner and more!  And Learn more about upcoming Yoga classes, support groups, educational seminars at,  like our FB page:\mylimitlesspotential
